"Old Tom Bombadil is a merry fellow,
Bright blue his jacket is, and his boots are yellow.
None has ever caught him yet, for Tom, he is the master:
His songs are stronger songs, and his feet are faster."- Tom Bombadil
ChriThe Adventures of Tom Bombadil is a collection of poems written by J. R. R. Tolkien.
Not all of the poems are about Tom Bombadil, some relate to other events of Middle-earth, giving insights into the events of the past.
In the version of the book that I have, the first 1/3 of the book contains the poems, the remaining 2/3 of the book are the poems (again) although this time containing information on the poem. The extra information is about when the poem was written, or where it might fit into the rest of Middle-earth, or may even be an older version of the poem before Tolkien revised it.
The poems are interesting and written in a peculiar fashion as Tolkien wrote them from the perspectives of the Hobbits. Any fan of the books or the films will notice how Tolkien makes reference to different places in the world of Middle-earth without expressly stating the name of the place. One such reference is made to the 'havens of grey' which is, of course, the Grey Havens, near the sea where the elves depart Middle-earth.
If you are as curious as I was about Tom Bombadil then the poems in this book may give you some more information on the nature of his character, especially if you analyse the poems more deeply than I have. As such, this book is a must have for any die-hard Lord of the Rings fan.
I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did, you can purchase it yourself through the Amazon link below. Any purchases made through that link help support the website!
